Telegram Gateway specializes in telegrams to Russia and CIS (aka NIS - Newly Independent States, the countries of the former Soviet Union). We recommend another service - SendTelegram.com - for worldwide telegrams.
Design of De-luxe forms (greetings cards) differs from country to country. See here some examples.
Telegrams are the quickest textual way of communication (except for the Internet, of course). It is widely used for urgent matters. A telegram sent to the Teletype network will be printed out in the post office closest to the recipient in a few hours. According to postal rules, a telegram must be delivered within 6 hours and requires the recipient's signature. If you are lucky, a postman will deliver it tonight, otherwise on the next day.
It is a network like the Internet but much older. But it is more robust. No one message can get lost because of the network's organization. Its nodes are Teletype centers in big cities. Telegrams are forwarded to closest post office to your recipient. However, it is oriented for shorter messages. In many cases, a telegram is considered an official document.
Yes, you can, but at the post office you will pay about 5 times more. For a 375 character long telegram it will be about 60 USD with Western Union in the U.S. or 90 DM with Bundespost in Germany). Our direct integration at the telex/teletype network and the Internet allows us to avoid high staff costs.
Other differences are specific for Russia and exUSSR:
- From post office you can not send a telegram in cyrillic
letters which can delay your telegram, since telegraph machines
with Latin type are rare in Russia and CIS;
- With the Telegram Gateway you can let your telegram be
translated (free);
- through the Telegram Gateway you can receive telegrams from
Russian addresses who pay only internal telegram fees at their
local post-office.
Any postal address in Russia, or one of former Republics, is valid, doesn't matter if it is big city or a small village in the taiga. A postman of Russian Post will ring the bell and request a signature of recipient.
Yes, if you pay with a credit card or checks on-line. You will have to fill out the details of your credit card or check in the on-line form. You can also submit your credit card payment by calling 1-800 number. Fees apply.
If you register on-line by filling out the check form or you use a credit card, you are registered immediately and will receive a return telegram address. If you send your check or money order via airmail postal service you get full access in about 4 working days.
Once registered you receive a service account with us. You can request an account statement and deposit further payments with us at anytime while using the telegram service.
Sure. But then you don't have a return address and your correspondents cannot answer you by telegram. The sense of registration is to assign return telegram address, associated with your email.
You can pay in one of the following ways:
1. You can pay with a check on-line at http://www.telegramgateway.com (click "Members/Deposit"). You don't need to send the check in pen to us in this case. Alternatively, you can pay by credit card, ringing 1-800 number. This method of payment is good for larger payments (USD 50+). After submitting of the payment you obtain immediate access to the Telegram Gateway.
2. You can mail a minimum advance payment 30 USD in form of a check or international money order (Travelers cheque/Eurocheque etc.).
3. Finally, you can pay by a bank transfer. This should work from any country in the world.
Once registered you receive a P.O. Box telex address. If you include
it into your telegram, your correspondent
in Russia, CIS or any other country can answer you via Telegram Gateway.
Your correspondent can send you a telegram from any post office
by paying the internal price and it will be forwarded to you by
e-mail immediately after it reaches our telegraph machine.
Your return address for your correspondents will look like:
AT/TELEX 345683 POBOX NN YOUR_NAME
If your correspondent is a company which has its own teletype or telex number write it instead of the P.O. Box address. It will get through more quickly.

And vise versa, you can fill out the check form now and send your telegram another day. Your service account will be adjusted accordingly.
